You can make Tritium on nuclear generators or harvest Antimatter with Antimatter collectors. You can harvest materials with the ISRU refinery or the lab. Remember that you will upgrade engines and power plants as you progress, so their performance will eventually go up. Finally, you need to install radiators to manage waste heat. Heat engines work better on bigger/better power plants. They can need either thermal power (like the heat nozzle/jets) or electric power (plasma/Vista thrusters.) If they need electric power you need to hook up an electric generator to the power plant according to their description. Thrusters need power plants (nuclear, antimatter).
